A Project to Empower Young Women with Digital and Entrepreneurial Skills Unveiled

Africa-Press – Ghana. DigiVibe a private sector driven initiative to empower young women has been unveiled in Accra, to equip female graduates with skills and opportunities to thrive in the digital economy.

The programme aims to raise awareness among 4,000 students, train 1,000 women, create 270 Junior Consultants, and place over 400 women in decent ICT-related jobs, and national service positions.

The project is in collaboration with the Oxford Africa Women Leadership Institute (OAWLI), WERise Network, and the German AFOS Foundation for Entrepreneurial Development Cooperation.

Others are the Ghana National Service Secretariat and several tertiary institutions with funding from the German Ministry of International Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through sequa and the German Special Initiative Decent Work for a Just Transition.

Madam Hanna Schlingman, AFOS Foundation, project lead, noted that a shift in mindset was crucial for women to confidently navigate the digital world and contribute meaningfully.

She said the initiative was to empower not only young women but businesses in the digital space.

The initiative consists of two flagship programs including CareerEssentials an AI-driven virtual training targeting about 1000 young women in ICT and soft skills.

The other component is the SheConsult where Tech-savvy female graduates would be paired with businesses to get real-world experience.

Mr Felix Gyamfi, Director General of the National Service Scheme, pledged the full support of the National Service Authority (NSA).

He noted that DigiVibe aligned with the Authority’s renewed commitment to directing national service personnel towards opportunities within the private sector.

The objective of the project, according to him, was in line with the National Service Authority’s goal “our focus is to send the majority of our service personnel into the private sector,” he added.

He applauded the project’s special focus on women-led businesses and noted that it complemented the government’s agenda to promote gender equity and support female entrepreneurship.
