Africa-Press – Ghana. The Central North Regional Police Command on Wednesday, ended a three-day intensive capacity-building for 80 security personnel ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primaries slated for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
A total of 214,812 delegates would be expected to vote in 277 voting centres across the country, covering all 276 constituencies and the party’s national headquarters.
For that matter, the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee had granted the Ghana Police Service the exclusive jurisdiction over security arrangements for the primary and no private or unauthourised security arrangements would be permitted at any voting centre on the election day.
In so doing, the Central North Police Command at Assin Fosu ahead of time had empowered 70 officers drawn from seven police districts and 10 officers from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The high-risk tactical training programme was aimed at strengthening security to promote a coordinated, tactical and professional approach to election security in collaboration with GIS.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the Formed Police Unit and other operational teams, whose participation was expected to enhance inter-agency coordination.
It was facilitated by experienced security experts from the National Police Headquarters who took participants through some security practicals that were field-oriented and election-related security skills.
They were also taken through tactical deployment and overall effectiveness in maintaining law and order during election-related duties and other security operations.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the end of the training, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Abraham Acquaye, the Central North Regional Police Commander said the programme had enhanced the operational readiness and competence of personnel to effectively respond to any security eventuality.
According to DCOP Acquaye, the course focused on public order management, border patrol duties and other critical operational skills to ensure officers were adequately prepared to manage challenges that may arise before, during and after the polls.
DCOP Abraham Acquaye said the initiative aligned with the vision of the Police Administration to build a highly professional, disciplined and well-equipped police service capable of safeguarding public safety and maintaining peace, particularly during major national political activities.
He encouraged officers who participated in the training to remain guided by the lessons acquired and to continuously practice the skills learned to ensure heightened efficiency and professionalism as the election period approaches.
He further cautioned supporters of various political aspirants to remain law-abiding and refrain from acts that could disturb the peace.
“We the security agencies are well-equipped to deal with any eventuality, particularly troublemakers.
“The law is no respecter of persons, so one will be shielded for any misbehaviour,” he advised.
Some beneficiaries described the training as timely and had significantly boosted officers’ confidence and enable them to effectively counter any threats capable of undermining the primaries and future security operations.
“The training was timely and has significantly boosted our confidence, enabling us to effectively counter any threats to the primaries and future operations,” they said.
