Africa-Press – Ghana. The Volta Regional Centre for National Culture (CNC), in collaboration with GBC Volta Star Radio, has organised the maiden Traditional Cuisine Festival in Ho to celebrate cultural heritage through food and drinks.

The festival brought together seven participating groups, including hotels, restaurants, schools, and organisations, who competed in traditional cooking.

The event formed part of the government’s Black Star Experience initiative, and also commemorated the 90th anniversary of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

It was held on the theme: “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating the Tastes of Volta.”

Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, who was the Special Guest, described the event as significant, noting that it went beyond food.

“Food is about identity, heritage, health, and opportunity. Our traditional dishes embody our history, connect us to our environment, and reflect our resilience and creativity. By promoting indigenous cuisines, we encourage healthy living, support our local farmers, and strengthen our economy,” he said.

Mr Gunu commended the regional Centre for National Culture and Volta Star Radio for their initiative, and said the festival would not only inspire pride in tradition but also provide opportunities for tourism and sustainable businesses in the creative economy.

Mrs Lydia Nyarko-Ampomah, Volta regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, said the festival was part of activities under the Black Star Experience, a national programme championed by President John Dramani Mahama to highlight Ghana’s cultural identity.

She emphasised that food was a vital expression of heritage, unity, and resilience, and urged Ghanaians to protect and promote local cuisines.

She acknowledged the support of the Volta Regional Minister, the National Commission on Culture, and GB Foods, producers of Gino products, for making the event a success.

Mr Franklin Agbenyo, regional Director of GBC Volta Star Radio, said the partnership with the Centre for National Culture was timely, as it showcased cultural heritage through food, drinks, and dance while promoting unity between culture and the media.

In the cooking competition, African Hill Resort emerged winner, followed by the Trade Union Congress–Volta region in second place, while OLA Senior High School placed third.

Mr Peter Murray, Chief Chef of African Hill Resort, expressed delight at the victory and congratulated the organisers for providing a platform to showcase traditional cuisine and culture.
