Dzifa Gomashie Refutes Allegation of Reallocating Aflao Market Grant

Africa-Press – Ghana. Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament (MP) of Ketu South, has dismissed allegations that funds allocated for the construction of the Aflao Market are being redirected to support works at the National Theatre.

There has a recent social media circulation alleging that the grant secured for the market project would be used for renovation works at the National Theatre.

However, Madam Gomashie who is also the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in an interview with the media, described the claims as false, stressing that she had no authority to reassign funds allocated for a presidentially approved project.

Reacting to the allegations, the Minister emphasised that no individual could alter or override directives issued by the President regarding project financing and implementation.

She said the funds earmarked for the Aflao Market remained intact and could not be diverted by any person.

Madam Gomashie urged the public, especially residents of Ketu South to verify information from credible sources before sharing it to help curb the spread of misinformation.

The legislator reaffirmed her commitment to the development of Aflao and the wider Ketu South Municipality and pledged to support initiatives that advanced the welfare of her constituents.

President John Dramani Mahama in July 2025 during the sod-cutting ceremony for the phase two of the Blekusu-Agavedzi Sea Defence Project, announced that the Government of China had extended a grant to Ghana for the construction of the proposed Aflao Market.

The President said the market formed part of a broader programme to boost economic activities, create jobs, and enhance trading opportunities in the Volta Region, particularly within the Ketu South Municipality.
