GFA Strengthens Travel Security after Player'S Death

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it will take steps to strengthen security arrangements for clubs travelling for domestic competitions following the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong after an armed robbery attack on team bus.

Frimpong died after the bus carrying Berekum Chelsea players and officials was attacked by suspected armed robbers while the team was travelling back to Berekum from Samreboi after a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex 1996 in a week 29 encounter.

In a statement, the GFA said it would engage key stakeholders to review existing security measures for team travel to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“The GFA will engage key stakeholders to review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs travelling for domestic competitions to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.

“We call on the entire football community to unite in support of Berekum Chelsea and the bereaved family in this moment of grief,” the statement said.

The GFA added that it was in constant communication with the club and relevant authorities, including the Ghana Police Service, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

“We urge that all necessary measures be taken to ensure justice is served,” the statement said.

Several Ghana Premier League clubs have expressed condolences to the players, technical team and management of Berekum Chelsea as they grieve during this difficult period.

“Asante Kotoko stands in solidarity with Berekum Chelsea after the unfortunate incident that happened on their return from the Week 29 fixture against FC Samartex 1996.

“Our thoughts are with the players, technical team and management during this difficult time. We urge the relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of all clubs,” Asante Kotoko said in a statement.
