Africa-Press – Ghana. The Gomoa Central District Assembly has adopted effective and proactive strategies to improve revenue collection to enhance development of the district.
The strategies include revenue staff motivation, provision of adequate logistics and maximum security to enable the officers to perform their required functions.
Mr Hackman Aidoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known at the Assembly’s last meeting at Gomoa Afransi.
According to him, the Assembly exceeded its revenue target of GHC1,374,221 budgeted for 2025.
It was able to collect an amount of GHC1,175, 955.99 representing 85.6 per cent as of December19, 2025.
Mr Aidoo said condemned an assault on a female revenue Officer performing her official duties, by a community member.
He used the occasion to inform the citizens that paying of tolls and other taxes to the Assembly was enshrined in the constitution and cautioned people who flouted the laws of the Assembly.
The DCE gave a firm assurance to all revenue officers for 24-hour security for them and warned that anybody who would attack revenue officers would be prosecuted.
On development, Mr Aidoo, said the Assembly had undertaken numerous projects including the drilling of boreholes, provision of overhead polytanks, extension of pipe-born water to two communities that included Hill City at Gomoa Asebu.
The DCE said the Assembly awarded two contracts for the construction of a 24-hour market and various types of school furniture to boost economic activities and enhance education.
According to him, the Assembly had also embarked on projects to basically source food items in industrialised zones to pool raw materials for value addition.
On quality education, the DCE commended the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Mr Kwame Asare Obeng, affectionately called A Plus, for the distribution of items to needy but brilliant school children to give them good education for the Area to become one of the best in the Central region.
The DCE bemoaned results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which he said was not encouraging.
Mr Aidoo revealed that of the 1,789 candidates presented by public Schools, only 46.3 percent passed, while 67.9 percent of the 212 candidates from private schools also passed.
On the executive committee report, the DCE said the Management of the Assembly should reshape inner roads to make it accessible to enhance transportation of goods and services in the various communities of the district.
Mr Asare Obeng said the government had awarded the Winneba-Junction to Agona Swedru road on contract but due to financial constraints, the contractor was not on site.
On employment, the MP said 24 people travelled abroad last year, under the government’s working abroad agenda, and assured that in 2026 more constituents would be sent abroad to work to improve the living standards of the people.
He said the Gomoa Central constituency was going to have free zone enclave where many spare parts dealers would work to generate jobs, and other businesses would be done for economic boom.
The MP said last year, his Constituency received a total of 9,000 bags of fertilizers for distribution to farmers in the Gomoa Central District to boost agricultural activities to enhance yields.
Mr Asare Obeng, stated that he had been able to secure 150 scholarships for tertiary students to pursue various degree courses to assist them become responsible adults in the Constituency.
Mr Ernest Quarm, the Presiding Member (PM) for the Gomoa Central District Assembly, expressed concern about the non-inclusivity of Assembly members in various projects being undertaken by the MP in their electoral Areas.
The PM told Mr Asare Obeng that the Assembly Members were ready to work assiduously with him to ensure the development of the district and urged him to include them.
