Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Evans Antwi Agyei, a tutor at Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi, has been elected Presiding Member (PM) of the Ahafo Ano South East District Assembly.
He secured a unanimous endorsement from all 31 Assembly Members, obtaining the required two-thirds majority in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The incumbent Presiding Member, Mr Ishmael Agyemang Duah, who had initially filed his nomination for re-election, later withdrew from the race, leaving Mr Antwi Agyei to contest unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Antwi Agyei expressed gratitude to the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to discharge his duties with fairness and impartiality.
He assured that he would uphold the Standing Orders of the Assembly and work diligently to promote the development of the district.
Earlier, Mr Nelson Yamba Issaka Ibrahim, the District Chief Executive, had urged members to ensure the election of a Presiding Member to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Assembly and accelerate development efforts in the area.
The election was witnessed by the District Coordinating Director, officials of the EC, a magistrate, heads of departments, security personnel, and other stakeholders.
