Africa-Press – Ghana. Madam Eunice Ansu Ohenewaa, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Juaben, has called on residents within the municipality to actively participate in the monthly National Sanitation Day exercise to help promote cleanliness and safeguard public health.
She made the appeal during a six-day community engagement, and thank-you tour of various communities, including Achiase, Akronwi, and Adumasa.
The MCE underscored that maintaining a clean and healthy environment was a shared responsibility, requiring the active involvement of all citizens.
She noted that poor sanitation remained a leading cause of preventable diseases and urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than periodic activity.
“Keeping our surroundings clean is not the duty of the government alone. It demands collective effort from all,” she stated.
She disclosed that the Assembly, in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department, had identified key areas for intensive cleanup exercises, including market centers, lorry stations, and drainage systems.
She appealed to traditional leaders, opinion leaders, youth associations, and religious organisations to mobilise their members for active participation in the monthly exercise.
Madam Ohenewaa cautioned that the Assembly would strictly enforce existing sanitation by-laws against individuals and institutions that failed to take part in the National Sanitation Day activities.
The National Sanitation Day initiative, introduced by the government of Ghana, is observed on the first Saturday of every month.
It seeks to encourage voluntary community participation in environmental sanitation and support the national vision of building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Ghana.
