Methodist Church Ghana Mourns Youth Lost in Recruitment

Africa-Press – Ghana. Most Reverend Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana has led the Church in extending its sympathies to families affected by the tragic deaths and injuries recorded during recent military recruitment exercises at the El-Wak Sports and Baba Yara Sports Stadia.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Church, Most Rev. Dr. Boafo described the events of November 12, 2025, as a “national tragedy,” lamenting the loss of young applicants at El-Wak and the injuries sustained by several others in Kumasi following a sudden crowd surge.

He referenced Psalm 34:18 to comfort the bereaved, reminding them that “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

The Presiding Bishop has therefore called for strengthened safety protocols and better crowd management systems during mass public recruitment exercises to prevent similar occurrences.

He also urged military authorities and relevant state institutions to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the incidents at both venues.

Most Rev. Dr. Boafo reaffirmed the Methodist Church’s solidarity with the affected families and the nation, committing the departed into God’s care and offering prayers for the full recovery of the injured.
