Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has held an orientation and capacity-building session for the Governing Board and Management of the National Film Authority to strengthen leadership, teamwork, and emotional intelligence in the Authority’s operations.
The session formed part of the Ministry’s broader capacity-building initiative designed to equip agencies under its supervision with the skills and mindset needed for effective public service delivery.
Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the sector minister, underscored the importance of structure, collaboration, and continuous learning in sustaining institutional growth.
The creative sector thrived on passion and expression, but it must equally be guided by professionalism, respect, and strategic cooperation, she noted.
“We are emotional people, but we must learn to communicate effectively, respect structures, and work together for the collective good of the sector.”
She said the orientation programme marked a key step in fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability within the National Film Authority, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to building a more professional and results-driven creative sector.
The Minister encouraged board members and management to position themselves as leaders capable of earning public trust, stressing that leadership in the creative industry should reflect discipline, empathy, and a commitment to national development.
She assured participants of the Ministry’s continued support to enhance output, adding that despite limited financial resources, there remained a wealth of expertise within the Ministry that could be leveraged to promote enhance the performance of its agencies.
Mr Otto Langmagne, the Director for Human Resource Management, MOTCCA, noted that true leadership went beyond authority.
“It involves inspiring, influencing, and guiding others towards a shared vision,”
He highlighted the importance of adaptability, empathy, and effective communication in resolving conflicts and achieving organisational goals.
Mr Ivan Quashigah, the Chairman of the National Film Authority Governing Board, expressed appreciation to the Ministry for the session, describing it as both “timely and insightful.”
He emphasised the role of emotional intelligence in leadership, saying effective leaders must be able to “read situations, understand people, and make decisions that promote harmony and progress.”
Mr Quashigah commended the Minister for providing office space for the Authority and appealed for additional logistical support to facilitate the execution of its mandate.
