Africa-Press – Ghana. Actor John Dumelo has said that he was not concerned about the initial decision of some persons including Fred Nuamah to contest him for the Ayawaso West Wuogon National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate position ahead of the 2024 elections.
He, however, said that given his performance in the 2020 elections as the parliamentary candidate, he felt it would have been suicidal to change him for another candidate going into the next elections.
Speaking on Monday August 14, he said “For me it has been months of talking back and forth, and having a series of meetings with stakeholders, everything was at the doorstep of Fred Nuamah to still contest or to throw support behind.
“I didn’t mind the contest but I felt like a contest wasn’t necessary. The party looked at Ayawaso West Wuogon as a different case. I contested the 2020 and we did well, I felt it would have been suicidal to change the candidate.”
The NDC endorsed him as the parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency ahead of the 2024 general elections.
This was after the party said that the two other contestants agreed to quit the race to support Mr Dumelo.
“As a result of this harmonious agreement we proudly endorse and present Mr John Dumelo as the official NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections,” a statement issued by the constituency chairman Bismark Ahorvi Ayitey on Sunday, August 13 said.
It is recalled that movie producer Fred Nuamah withdrew from the Ayawaso West Wuogon NDC parliamentary primaries to throw his support behind his colleague mover maker John Dumelo.
He earlier announced his intention to contest in the primaries after John Dumelo also declared his intention. He also indicated that Dumelo had blessed him to contest in that particular constituency, a claim Dumelo flatly denied.
But announcing is withdrawal from the race, Fred Nuamah said “I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general elections. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party’s unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country.”
He added “I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo, to be the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency.”
He added “I urge all my supporters across all levels of the party in the constituency to rally behind John Dumelo and provide him with needed support. Together, with a renewed sense of togetherness, we can secure victory in the 2024 elections and uplift our nation from its current state.”
