Africa-Press – Ghana. The Centre for Culture and Sustainable Development (CCSD), a community-based organization committed to promoting culture, sustainable development, and environmental conservation, has led a tree planting exercise to help conserve the environment.

The exercise held with learners of the Gbi-Kpoeta M/A Basic School in the Hohoe Municipality, saw the planting of Teak and Afram tree species.

Togbe Adom Dake X, President of CCSD Gbi-Kpoeta, disclosed that the organization was also committed to youth empowerment through various community-centered initiatives with a focal point on environmental sustainability.

“And as part of this, we are embarking on a tree planting campaign aimed at restoring degraded lands, improving climate resilience and engaging local communities, especially young people in environmental stewardship,” he stated.

He said the Organization also sought to create a harmonious and progressive community hinged on a mission to nurture a well-informed society that valued diversity, inclusivity, promotes equality, equity, and champions sustainable development.

Togbe Dake said as a UNESCO club, the CCSD aligned with the aims of UNESCO to help build a community that was environmentally friendly, protected plant and animal life in a clean environment.

He said they also tend to promote a society where culture was a key component of sustainable development, strategically woven into sustainability practices to foster a deeper connection to the environment, encourage preservation of traditions, and promote social cohesion.

Mr Desmond Korby Vorvor, Headteacher of the School, said they would ensure that the trees were taken care of for the good of the school environment since they would grow to beautify the compound and served as windbreaks.
