Africa-Press – Ghana. The Northern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Lucas Yiryel, says the Commission is yet to issue clear guidelines on the Kpadai Constituency election rerun ordered by a Tamale High Court on Monday.
He said in an interview that he could not speak authoritatively on any possible by-election for the constituency.
He reiterated that the Commission was yet to issue clear guidelines on the elections and added “When we are ready for the by-election in the Kpandai Constituency as declared by the Tamale High Court, we will inform the public.”
A High Court in Tamale on Monday annulled the December 2024 Parliamentary election results of the Kpandai Constituency over irregularities and ordered a rerun within 30 days.
The 2024 parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the Kpandai Constituency, Mr Daniel Nsala Wakpal, on December 23, 2024 filed a petition at the High Court in Tamale challenging the Commission’s declaration of Mr Matthew Nyindam as Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.
While the case was pending at the court, Mr Nyindam was sworn in as the MP for the area.
The annulled results had Mr Nyindam leading with 27,947 votes, representing 53.47 per cent, while Mr Wakpal secured 24,213 votes, representing 46.33 per cent.
