Africa-Press – Ghana. The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has begun active work on a 1,000-unit affordable housing project in Ho, marking a major step toward reducing the housing deficit in the Volta Regional capital and its surrounding communities.
Mr. Daniel Owusu, Acting Planner at TDC, disclosed this during the second day of the Volta Regional Minister’s inspection tour of key government projects.
He said the team had commenced boundary demarcation as the first stage of the project.
“We are currently undertaking the boundary demarcation. The individual layouts will follow as we move into the next phase. Active work has started,” he said.
Mr. Owusu explained that construction would begin from the upper section of the site, where apartment blocks, including two-bedroom units and service plots, would be developed.
“The apartments will be situated at the top of the site. That is where we are starting with the two-bedroom apartments and serviced plots. Altogether, we are looking at about 1,000 units,” he added.
Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, commended TDC for the progress made so far, noting that the initiative was a major intervention to address the region’s growing demand for affordable housing.
He urged the corporation to expedite the pace of work so that residents could begin benefiting from the project sooner rather than later.
“TDC’s efforts are commendable. This project will significantly ease the housing challenge in Ho and its environs. We encourage them to fast-track the process so our people can have access to decent and affordable housing,” he said.
The project covers more than 1,800 acres of land belonging to the Ministry of Works and Housing, which has been made available to TDC for the development of the multi-phase housing scheme.
The Volta Regional Minister reiterated government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing and emphasised that the Ho project would serve as a model for future developments in the region.
