Africa-Press – Ghana. The British High Commission in Accra, in partnership with the Bank of Ghana, will host the inaugural London-to-Accra Economic Growth Summit on January 6, 2026.

A statement issued in Accra jointly by the Bank and the High Commission said the Summit would convene 200 leaders from the UK and Ghana, including policymakers, investors, innovators and creatives, to chart strategies for long-term, inclusive economic growth.

Topics to be discussed include Remitting to Invest, Evolving Diaspora Financial Flows, London and Accra as Powerhouses for Economic Growth, Unleashing the Potential of Cities Through Culture, People and Creativity, and Diaspora as a Bridge for Trade and Investment.

The statement said the Summit formed part of the London-to-Accra campaign, an initiative designed to strengthen social, cultural and economic connections between the UK and Ghana.

It noted that remittances, including those from the UK-Ghana diaspora, continue to serve as a vital source of external financing for Ghana’s development, supporting entrepreneurship, education, housing and innovation.

The statement said that the Summit would explore strategies to transition remittance-driven support into tangible opportunities for trade, investment and cultural exchange, promoting mutual economic growth.

“The event will also shine a spotlight on the rapidly growing creative industries, one of the most vibrant sectors linking London and Accra,” it said.

Through panel discussions, the Summit would celebrate the global impact of Ghanaian music, fashion, design, film and digital culture, showcasing how cultural capital is shaping international markets and transforming economic narratives.

Delegates will hear keynote addresses from Dr Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and senior Ghanaian government ministers, alongside panels featuring leading voices in investment, innovation and the creative arts.

The statement said the London-to-Accra Economic Growth Summit marks an important milestone in strengthening economic, cultural and social ties between the UK and Ghana.

It said that by convening influential voices across sectors and harnessing the power of the diaspora, the Summit sets the stage for deeper collaboration, innovative partnerships and long-term investment opportunities.

“As London and Accra continue to emerge as interconnected centres of creativity, entrepreneurship and economic potential, this Summit represents a pivotal step toward building a more inclusive and prosperous future for communities across both nations,” it said.

The statement said that the ideas, partnerships and commitments forged at the Summit would form the foundation for ongoing cooperation and sustained growth.

It noted that the UK Government was committed to advancing diaspora engagement as a pillar of its international economic strategy, recognising the unique role of Ghanaian diaspora communities in fostering trade, investment and cultural exchange.

Dr Rogg, speaking ahead of the Summit, said: “The British Ghanaian diaspora is more than a connector, it is the backbone of our shared vision for growth.

“The UK is proud to champion this renewed approach to diaspora engagement, unlocking opportunities for trade, investment, and collaboration that benefit both of our nations,” he said.

Dr Asiama said: “At the Bank of Ghana, we are committed to building the policy and regulatory infrastructure to support diaspora investment from foreign exchange reforms to digital financial services and securing low-cost remittance channels.”

He said the Summit provided an opportunity to translate cultural pride into economic purpose.
