Africa-Press – Kenya. David Kipsang Keter has won the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election after a closely contested exercise held ahead of the May 14 by-election.
According to the results, Keter garnered 13,749 votes to secure the party ticket, narrowly defeating Bernard Kipkoech Ngeno, who received 13,394 votes.
The nomination attracted attention due to the tight margin between the two candidates and the turnout of voters in the constituency.
Leaders who commented on the outcome praised both candidates and the electorate for maintaining calm during the process.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen congratulated Keter on his victory, stating: “Hearty congratulations to David Keter on winning the hotly contested UDA nomination for Emurua Dikirr Constituency. Your patience, persistence, and resilience have finally paid off.”
He also commended Ngeno, saying: “To Bernard Ng’eno, who came a close second, well done for putting up a spirited fight. You have demonstrated great strength and sportsmanship, and you undoubtedly have a bright future ahead.”
Murkomen further praised voters, noting that the exercise was peaceful and unique.
“I commend the people of Emurua Dikirr for maintaining peace and turning out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right today. This was a truly unique contest—one fought through music and poetry, day and night, in an atmosphere defined by peace and civility,” he said.
Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei also congratulated Keter and thanked residents for their participation and calm conduct during the nominations, describing the process as “well coordinated, transparent and efficient.”
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya echoed similar sentiments, commending both candidates and residents for a peaceful campaign and voting process.
Keter will now carry the UDA flag in the upcoming by-election.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of area MP Johana Ng’eno who died in an helicopter crash in Nandi on February 28, 2026.
