Africa-Press – Kenya. United Democratic Alliance party officials on Monday met Communist party of China counterparts for talks.

The benchmarking meeting was held at Hustlers Plaza along Ngong Road Nairobi were an interview with CCTV was held.

“As we benchmark with the Communist Party of China (CPC), we only admire their party strength and structures. We, therefore, urge them to copy our Party UDA Kenya in advocating for democracy, human rights and free and fair elections,” Muthama tweeted.

Among the topics discussed were Kenya-China relations and the recently held communist party congress in China and trade relations.

Muthama noted that Kenya’s goods trade deficit with China has continued on an upward trajectory despite the launch of the 2018 integrated national development and promotion strategy.

Muthama asserted that going forward, President William Ruto’s administration will look for favourable ways to narrow the gap between exports and imports.

“There are a lot of things that the Chinese government can expand by opening up the market and buying a lot of products in Kenya while Kenya at the moment buys more than what China buys from Kenya,” Muthama noted.

Muthama also called for open talks to widen markets for both countries and allow for a balanced trade system.

This will enable Kenya not to always purchase more from China than China is purchasing from Kenya.

Muthama added that as a party, they have admired the strength of the CPC party adding that they also want to grow UDA to be just as strong.

“We also admire the steps that you have made to bring your party to where it is today, we wish to do the same,” Muthama stated.
