Africa-Press – Kenya. Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has urged women MPs to use the opportunity they have while in office to make a difference. Mbarire asked those aspiring to run county governments to build their capacity.
“Go to school and get a degree, then run for governorship,” she said.
“Our success and performance as a woman leader could directly influence and make a good case for the election of other women in a different location.”
She urged the MPs to make sure they prioritise their holistic self-care and be bold and courageous. “Take care of your health, go to the gym and be active, take care of your financial wellness and make time for family,” she said.
Mbarire also urged them to build good relations across the board and work toward actualising the two-thirds gender rule. “Whether it’s the executive, county assembly, the Parliamentary staff. Anyone who can assist you advance your personal legislative agenda,” she said.
Mbarire was among the speakers at the induction workshop for members of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association happening in Naivasha. She is among the seven women leaders who managed to clinch gubernatorial seats.
