Africa-Press – Kenya. A Chinese national was robbed of Ksh5.2 million by persons suspected to be his colleagues in a company he works for.
The man, identified as Shan Xiu Ming, lost the money along Mombasa Road in Nairobi on Friday, February 11, 2022.
Ming told police that he left his office carrying the cash which he planned to deposit at a bank along Mombasa Road but he never made it to the financial institution.
The Chinese national told police that he was being driven by a man known to him when the driver notified him that he had been signalled by the police to stop.
He told the officers that the driver turned towards South B and a few meters from the road, two men armed with knives blocked their way. The gang forced them to open doors open and sprayed the Chinese national with an unknown substance on the face.
Nairobi deputy police boss, James Mugera, confirmed the incident noting that police were investigating the matter.
According to the police, the driver also ran away after the robbery, leaving behind his mobile phone and national identity card.
Last year, another Chinese national was robbed of Ksh15 million cash while partying in Nairobi. The incident took place at his home in Lang’ata when he was out to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
A police report at Lang’ata police station disclosed that the man left his house help and driver in the house in the evening before he returned later that night.
Upon his return, the Chinese national found that the safe which he had been keeping in his bedroom, missing.
“Police officers visited the scene and established that the bedroom door was not broken into, hence the possibility of an inside job. Besides, the compound is well guarded,” the report observed.
Police arrested four people in connection with the robbery as they worked to solve the crime and find the missing safe.
