Africa-Press – Kenya. St. Christopher’s School Nanyuki is this year the Mt. Kenya champions in the Private and International Preps Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) age group swimming Championships held at Mt. Kenya Academy Nyeri.
The gala was used as a memorial of the late Patrick Muyah – former Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) president, who passed away last year. Muyah hailed from Othaya, Nyeri, and left behind a great legacy of development swimming.
St. Christopher’s School swimmers were the defending champions and dominated the gala for the second time in a row with various swimmers winning most of the races that saw them garner 1,036 points overall.
Saints will represent the Mt. Kenya region during the PIPSSA Nationals Swimming Championships scheduled for February 12 at Oshwal Academy Mombasa.
Thereafter, swimmers with the best times will represent the country in the East Africa Dolphins Invitational Swimming Championships that will take place in April in Kampala, Uganda.
The Mt. Kenya Academy, who hosted the gala came second with 525 points in the competition that attracted children between six and 17 years. Nyeri Good Shepherds Academy finished third with 77 points.
St. Christopher’s School swimming coach, Omar Ali Omari, said his swimmers have what it takes to win the national competition next month and represent the country in East African Championships.
