Africa-Press – Kenya. East Africa Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands and Regional Development CS Rebecca Miano has sent out her congratulatory message to the newly elected EALA MPs.
A statement by Miano welcomed the nine elected officials to the 5th East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in Kenya.
“We are proud that Kenya has sent its best team to the regional Assembly and I am looking forward to fruitful engagement with you,” Miano said.
Miano added that she looks forward to a fruitful engagement with the elected officials.
She said the members join the Assembly at a critical time when Kenya implements the 3rd and 4th pillars of EAC integration, the Monetary Union and political confederation respectively.
“EALA MPs are joining the assembly at a critical time, when the EAC membership continues to expand,” she added.
Kenya will be represented to EALA by 9 MPs.
The elected EALA members are Hassan Omar, Zipporah Kering, David Ole Sankok, Godfrey Mwangi Maina, Falhada Iman Dekow, Kennedy Kalonzo, Winnie Odinga, Kanini Kega and Suleiman Shahbal.
Winnie Odinga will represent Azimio La Umoja at EALA after she got 247 votes in Thursday’s polls at Parliament.
Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega, Kennedy Musyoka and businessman Suleiman Shahbal will also carry the Azimio flag.
Each country is required to produce nine each bringing the total to 45.
