Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar will lock horns with neighbours Masinde Murilo University of Science and Technology in the final of the inaugural Victoria 15’s pre season tournament on Saturday next week.
Kabras overcame KRU Championship side Kisumu RFC while MMUST saw off second tier side Western Bull in the semis played at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu under floodlights on Saturday night.
In the first semi final, MMUST defeated former Kenya Cup side Bulls 29-10 while Kabras narrowly beat hosts Kisumu RFC 14-10.
MMUST assistant coach John Asila said: “It was a good game because the players expressed themselves on the pitch. This tournament has given us a platform to gauge our players before Kenya Cup.”
“Our main target here is to keep on improving and ensure that players implement what we train. The game against Kabras will help us establish whether we are ready for the new season.”
Kisumu RFC secretary Jaycox Mwavali said: “The tournament was glamorous, entertaining and full of life. In a nutshell, it was a success. It was beyond our expectations. We look forward to an exciting final next Saturday.”
The tournament brought together Kenya Cup, Championship and Nationwide teams from Eldoret, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Vihiga and Bungoma. The tournament will now be held annually.
