Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenyans Jesse Okal and Mohammed Bagha clinched gold and bronze respectively at the Africa Triathlon Championship in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, between February 23 and 24.

Okal, a grandson of legendary athlete Kipchoge Keino, clinched the Super Sprint Champion title in 41 minutes and 23 seconds while Bagha’s bronze came in the Junior Triathlon Category.

The event marked the beginning of the 2024 World circuit, which will culminate with the Paris Olympic Games in August.

Josett Kiarie finished fourth in the women’s elite aquathlon category, while Dubai-based Aisha Naseer and Meghan Irungu were 14th and 15th respectively in the elite women category.

Kaiza Iman and Nadia Ndibo were fifth and seventh respectively in the junior women’s category.

Kenya last hosted the event in November 2022 at Kilifi county.

The focus has now shifted to next month’s African Games in Ghana and the Africa Triathlon Cup in South Africa in April.
