Rangers, Homeboyz Set for Fierce Duel at Kasarani Annex

Africa-Press – Kenya. Posta Rangers and Kakamega Homeboyz head to Kasarani Annex on Saturday for a SportPesa Premier League Round 26 showdown, a duel that brings together contrasting seasons, renewed momentum, and the unforgiving reality of a league entering its decisive stretch.

Homeboyz approach the encounter placed fifth on the log with 39 points from 24 matches, their season quietly built on consistency, structure, and an enduring drive to stay within reach of the league’s upper echelon.

Their recent 1–1 draw against Bandari underlined both their competitive edge and the fine margins that have defined their season. Posta Rangers, meanwhile, arrive in 11th place with 31 points from 25 matches, a season marked by fluctuation but also flashes of brilliance that have kept them clear of deeper trouble.

Their recent 2–1 away victory over Kariobangi Sharks injected fresh belief into their campaign, offering a glimpse of the discipline and attacking clarity they will need to sustain as the season tightens.

Homeboyz goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala, who has grown into one of the side’s most trusted young figures, described the fixture as one shaped by discipline and fine margins rather than dominance or flair.

“This is the kind of match where concentration matters from the first minute to the last,” Wanzala said. “We are in a good position on the table, but that means nothing if we don’t stay sharp in moments like these.”

He added that Homeboyz remain focused on building consistency as the season reaches its decisive phase. “We have worked hard to stay in the top half, and now it is about protecting that position and pushing even higher,” he said. “Every point now is like gold.”

On the opposite side, Posta Rangers forward Eliud Lokuwam enters the fixture as one of the side’s most influential attacking figures this season, having delivered key goals in crucial moments, including a brace against Tusker and a recent strike against AFC Leopards.

Lokuwam, reflecting on the Rangers’ growing confidence, insisted the team is evolving at the right time. “We are not the same team that struggled earlier in the season,” Lokuwam said. “There is belief now, and we are fighting for every point because we know what is at stake.”

He pointed to the importance of away form and mental strength as Rangers attempt to climb further away from the lower half of the table. “When we play away, we have learned to suffer together and stay compact. That is what has helped us pick up important results,” he said.

Historically, this fixture has leaned slightly in favour of Kakamega Homeboyz, who have established a narrow but notable edge in recent meetings. The last encounter ended in a 2–0 victory for Homeboyz in November 2025, reinforcing a pattern of controlled performances in this matchup.

Across the last 12 league meetings, Homeboyz have won four times compared to two victories for Posta Rangers, with six matches ending in draws. The statistical trend points to a rivalry defined more by balance than dominance, with neither side consistently overwhelming the other.

Lokuwam acknowledged that history but dismissed its relevance heading into Saturday’s clash. “They have had the upper hand in recent matches, yes, but every game is different,” he said. “We respect them, but we are going there to compete and change that story.”

Wanzala, however, believes past encounters still carry lessons that Homeboyz must not ignore “We know these games are always tight,” he said. “Even when we win, it is never comfortable. That is why discipline becomes the most important thing.”

He added that Homeboyz are aware of Posta Rangers’ attacking threats, particularly in transition. “They have players who can punish you if you lose focus for even a second,” Wanzala said. “So we have to stay organised and communicate well at the back.”

The league standings further highlight the contrast in season trajectories. Gor Mahia lead the table with 56 points, followed by AFC Leopards and Kenya Police FC, while Homeboyz remain in fifth position as part of a tightly contested upper mid-table group. Posta Rangers sit 11th, balancing between consolidation and the need to avoid slipping further down the standings.

Despite the gap in positions, Lokuwam believes Rangers’ recent performances suggest a team capable of surprising higher-ranked opposition. “We know where we are on the table, but we also know what we are capable of,” he said. “If we stay focused, we can compete with anyone.”

Wanzala echoed similar caution about the unpredictability of the league. “In this league, no match is easy,” he said. “You can dominate and still lose, or suffer and still win. That is why we respect every opponent the same way.”

As the two sides prepare to meet again, the narrative is shaped by fine margins, historical balance, and contrasting momentum. Homeboyz will look to reinforce their top-half stability, while Posta Rangers aim to build on recent confidence and continue their climb away from danger.

Lokuwam summed up the away side’s mentality simply. “We are ready to fight for every ball,” he said. “This is the kind of game that can define how our season finishes.”

Wanzala, equally firm, offered the final word. “We know what is at stake,” he said. “Now it is about showing it on the pitch.”
