Africa-Press – Kenya. Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta erred in converting Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital into a parastatal, Attorney General Justin Muturi has said.
Muturi however told MPs that Uhuru’s decision was not illegal as the law empowered him to do so.
He told members of the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education that the retired president appeared not to have consulted enough before issuing the Executive Order in 2019.
He noted that the meeting called by the Head of Public Service bringing together Education and Health ministries to discuss liberalisation of the hospital in October 2018 left out Kenyatta University.
“The meeting, according to me was the original sin. It looked like a decision had been made earlier,” he stated.
He said the national government must address the issue because Kenyatta University was totally ignored when making the decision.
He said KU students should be allowed to use the hospital for their studies without restrictions.
