Africa-Press – Lesotho. Minister of Development Planning Hon. Selibe Mochoboroane on Friday handed over 50 copies of the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) II document written in braille, to the Lesotho National Federation of Organization of the Disabled (LNFOD). The NSDP II is intended to assist Lesotho to achieve inclusive growth and reduction of poverty through private sector led employment creation. NSDP II priorities include agriculture, tourism and manufacturing among others. Speaking at a media briefing, Mochoboroane said LNFOD has always been part of the 10 year strategic plan – since the introduction of NSDP I.

He said people living with disabilities deserve to have access to this kind of information, such that they are actively involved in any and every development as citizens of this country. He agrees that such people have the right to know the strategies that the government
wants to embark on in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Meanwhile the Lesotho National League of the Visually Impaired Persons (LNLVIP) president Jeremane Teele speaking on behalf of visually impaired persons, thanked the Ministry of Development Planning for the initiative it took of turning the NSDP document into braille writing. Teele said, “We always contribute in the formation of the document however we never really know whether the information we shared has been included in the document,” he said. Teele said his wish is to see other ministries duplicate what the Ministry of Development Planning has done. LNLVIP

Vice-Secretary General Kopano Tšilonyane said he is excited that government officials are slowly including people living with disabilities when publishing documents that are of national

interests. “If all the ministries were to publish every document in both normal and braille writing we would be able to receive information at first hand and not from secondary sources,” he said.
