Africa-Press – Lesotho. Kick4life has demystified the rumours that it has been defunct, saying it is rather selling the “status” of the team. This was revealed at the press conference held at their grounds yesterday.

Kick4life management enlightened the media and the football fraternity that they were vending their senior men’s team status not the name. They had announced on their Facebook page that they withdraw from Vodacom Premier

League (VPL) saying they will compete as under 23 team in the men’s league in the next season. They relinquish their Premier League status at position 9 in the VPL log table.

Speaking at the event, Kick4Life Head Coach Makoanyane Letsie said since their mandate was to change children’s lives through football, they resolved to channel more

of their resources on their education in order to invest in their future. Kick4Life Candi-Director Motlatsi Nkhahle added that they have been contemplating on the

plan to relinquish Premier League status after sending some of Kick4Life players overseas. Nkhahle detailed that it was going to be challenging for someone who had registered under Premier League to get Athletic Scholarship

(AS) since AS is for amateur players, saying they will look for other opportunities to be earned by those who were restricted by requirements in AS. Nkhahle

further disclosed that they received a message from The Collegiate Sport Authority of America indicating that once a player is registered under the Premier League, such player losses access to AS.

“So vending our status will enable us to keep sending young players to the United States of America (USA)

on life-changing international scholarship, something that is prohibited if they have played professionally in the men’s top flight,” he informed. “We

are not leaving football, we are only dissolving the senior men’s team but we will continue with the Women Super League. Our Kick4Life B Division team will

hold an umbrella on males side. We look forward to continuing to play a major role in growing the women’s football ecosystem in Lesotho, helping to promote gender equality on and off the pitch,” Nkhahle concluded.
