Cape Mount Confident Ahead of 2025/2026 County Meet

Africa-Press – Liberia. The countdown to the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet is underway, and Grand Cape Mount County is signaling confidence.

The County’s Co-Chair on Ways, Means and Finance, Mr. Sensee Kiadii, has assured citizens, lawmakers, and supporters that the county’s football, kickball, and basketball teams are in “good shape” as preparations intensify.

Kiadii gave the assurance over the weekend after closely monitoring two recent friendly matches involving the football and kickball squads. The football team played against Grand Kru County, while the kickball team faced Pepper FC, a third-division side under the LFA Gardnerville Sub-Committee.

Encouraging Signs, But Finishing Still a Concern

According to Kiadii, the recent performances showed promising progress, particularly praising the football team’s ball movement and ability to create chances.

He noted the team produced several shots on target. However, he admitted that the primary challenge remains converting opportunities into goals.

“Our footballers showed good ball possession and confidence on the pitch, but they need to improve their finishing,” he stated.

“I am confident that the head coach and technical staff will correct these areas before the next round of friendlies.”

Regarding the kickball team, Kiadii encouraged the athletes to be quicker in closing down opponents and preventing home runs.

He specifically urged them to aim for at least three to four home-run points per round to boost their competitiveness in the upcoming tournament.

Kiadii extended appreciation to the county’s Senators, Representatives, citizens, and local companies for their sustained financial and moral support for the sports program.

“I want to thank our leaders and citizens for the support they continue to give,” he said. “Every cent received will be used for the development of our county sports. We also call on other sons and daughters of Cape Mount at home and abroad to come in with their support whether financial or through sports equipment.”

With dozens of athletes currently vying for positions on the county’s final football and kickball rosters, Kiadii delivered a firm reminder that selection will be based strictly on merit, not favoritism.

“The final lineup has not been completed,” he stressed. “Players will be chosen based on performance, discipline, and attitude not on who knows you. Good deportment will play a major role in making the final cut.”

As counties across Liberia intensify preparations for the nation’s biggest sporting festival, Grand Cape Mount asserts that it is focused, organized, and determined to make a strong showing when the County Meet officially kicks off on December 13, 2025.
