Africa-Press – Liberia. William V.S. Tubman University has conferred degrees upon 265 graduates at its 12th Commencement Convocation, held on Monday, November 24, 2025. The ceremony drew stakeholders of the University, lawmakers, international partners, and representatives from the University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa.
Presenting the academic statistics, Dr. Maria Fe Rebecca D. Gueta, Vice President for Academic Affairs, reported that the graduates were drawn from all six colleges of the University. These include:
College of Engineering & Technology – 48 graduates, College of Education – 33 graduates, College of Agriculture & Food Sciences – 15 graduates, College of Arts & Sciences – 22 graduates, College of Health Sciences – 78 graduates and College of Business & Administration – 69 graduates.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Letlhokwa George Mpedi, PhD, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg, urged the graduates to embrace innovation and leadership as Africa navigates a transformative era.
“We are here not only to celebrate your achievements, but to forge deeper partnerships with institutions like Tubman University,” Dr. Mpedi said. “You are entering a world where Africa stands at a crossroads.”
The President of Tubman University, Dr. Olu Q. Manjay, expressed gratitude to the Government of Liberia, particularly President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for supporting quality higher education and empowering the University with essential resources.
“Mr. President, we are grateful,” Dr. Manjay stated.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Representative P. Mike Jurry of Maryland County District #1 commended the University’s leadership, noting that Dr. Manjay’s stewardship “continues to open doors for investors and partners.”
A major highlight of the ceremony was the signing of a five-year Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between William V.S. Tubman University and the University of Johannesburg. The partnership aims to enhance academic collaboration, scholarship opportunities, research support, and broader institutional development.
The convocation ended with scenes of celebration as graduates, faculty, families, and international guests marked another milestone in the University’s growing legacy.
