Africa-Press – Liberia. The Embassy of India in Monrovia on Thursday hosted an India–Liberia Tourism Partnership Seminar, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector and promoting Indian tourism, with a special focus on the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The seminar, held on December 19, marked the third such initiative organized by the Embassy since the establishment of a resident Indian Mission in Liberia in 2021. The event brought together government officials, business leaders, tourism stakeholders, and media representatives from both countries.
Madam Princess Eva Cooper, Director General of the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA), served as Chief Guest. Other speakers included Hon. O. Natty B. Davis, President of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce; Hon. Natt Bayjay, Deputy Minister for Technical Services; and Mr. Shankar Jhamnani, Chief Executive Officer of Lucky Pharmacy and Executive Council Member of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce.
Discussions during the seminar centered on enhancing tourism collaboration between India and Liberia, highlighting the cultural heritage, architecture, wildlife, crafts, cuisine, and festivals of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Indian travel agents operating in Liberia delivered presentations showcasing tourist attractions in the two Indian states, while the LNTA outlined Liberia’s tourism potential, emphasizing ecotourism, heritage tourism, and experiential travel opportunities.
In his address, the Ambassador of India to Liberia, Shri Manoj Bihari Verma, welcomed participants and extended advance Christmas and New Year greetings. He shared personal experiences from visits to several tourist destinations across Liberia, including Salala, Nimba, Kpatawee Waterfall, Buchanan, Providence Island, the National Museum, and Libassa Ecolodge, underscoring the country’s vast and largely untapped tourism potential.

Ambassador Verma also reviewed the Embassy’s key engagements over the past year, including youth outreach programs, cultural celebrations such as Diwali and the International Day of Yoga, and a seminar highlighting the contribution of the Indian diaspora to India–Liberia relations. He noted the steady growth in bilateral trade, which reached USD 396 million in 2024–2025, representing a 54 percent increase over the previous year, with Liberia’s exports to India rising by 64 percent.
He further highlighted the ease of travel facilitated by streamlined visa services and India’s e-visa facility, as well as increased participation in capacity-building initiatives, with approximately 150 Liberians traveling to India in 2025 under various training and scholarship programs.
Emphasizing tourism as a vital bridge between peoples and cultures, the Ambassador expressed confidence that the seminar would open new avenues for tourism exchange and cooperation. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and expanding bilateral cooperation with Liberia across multiple sectors.
The seminar concluded with a networking session that allowed participants to exchange ideas, explore future partnerships, and deepen engagement between Indian and Liberian tourism stakeholders
