Liberia Peace Consortium Concludes National TOT Workshop

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Peace and Reconciliation Consortium (LNPRC) has concluded a three-day National Trainer of Trainers (TOT) Workshop on peacebuilding aimed at strengthening Liberia’s fragile peace and deepening reconciliation efforts across the country.

The workshop, held in Monrovia, brought together representatives from the LNPRC’s network of over 50 civil society organizations drawn from all 15 counties of Liberia.

The training focused on equipping participants with practical skills in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, confidence building, leadership and community mobilization.

According to the LNPRC, the newly trained facilitators will return to their respective communities to conduct local training sessions, working with community leaders, youth, and women’s groups to promote peace and conflict prevention at the grassroots level.

Varfee Holmes, a staff member of the Consortium, described Liberia’s peace as “fragile” despite nearly two decades of silence from the guns of war.

“There is this generation I call the Dark Age generation — kids who grew up during the war when guns were all they heard,” Holmes told journalists. “All the fabrics of society were broken down, and children lost their moral and social foundations. Even though Liberia enjoys peace, it remains fragile. Many are still living with the trauma and scars of war.”

He emphasized the need to reinforce peacebuilding efforts, warning that growing social challenges threaten national stability.

“We continue to see violence becoming the new normal, along with rising crime and drug addiction,” Mr. Holmes said. “As a people, we must commit to peacebuilding as a national legacy if we are to avoid returning to the dark days.”

The LNPRC said the TOT marks the start of a nationwide rollout of its community peacebuilding programs, including the creation of Peace Centers and Peace Clubs in communities, schools, churches, and institutions. These platforms will help instill values of tolerance, dialogue, and coexistence among Liberians.

The initiative was organized in partnership with Faith in Action International, a U.S.-based organization founded by Madam Eldrence Yalley, a Liberian peace advocate dedicated to promoting reconciliation and national healing.

“Total restoration and peace are possible in Liberia,” Madam Yalley said. “This vision continues to inspire collaborative efforts between Liberians at home and abroad toward lasting unity.”

One of the participants, Annie Gizzie Woyea of Lofa County, expressed gratitude for the training, describing it as transformative.

“This training has enhanced my understanding of how to engage communities and stakeholders in keeping our environments peaceful,” she told FrontPage Africa(FPA).

“I feel more empowered to go back and help strengthen peace in my community.”

The LNPRC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reconciliation, rebuilding trust, and fostering national harmony through inclusive and sustainable peacebuilding initiatives.
