Africa-Press – Malawi. The fraternity is grieving over the death of Moyale Barracks first choice goalkeeper Simeon Harawa who died suddenly Tuesday.
Harawa, 30, was pronounced dead at Mzuzu Central Hospital where he had been taken after collapsing soon after he had finished morning exercises.
He died after he had helped Moyale draw 1-1 with Civil Service United in a TNM Super League match on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium.
Coincidentally, Moyale also lost its chief supporter, Alex Kamanga, who died suddenly on Monday after he was found unconscious at his house.
Moyale General Secretary Omega Masamba described Harawa’s death as a heavy blow.
“He was our first-choice goalkeeper and a pillar to the team. We are still living in denial because he is the one who manned the posts when we faced Civil on Saturday,” Masamba said.
Meanwhile, both Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and Super League of Malawi yesterday released statements paying tribute to Harawa.
Harawa, who was a young brother to former Moyale goalkeeper McDonald Dente Harawa, was born March 25 1995.
He started playing for Moyale in 2015 and was employed by the Malawi Defence Force in 2019.
Harawa hails from Chindewe Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwalweni in Rumphi District. Burial will take place Thursday.
