Africa-Press – Malawi. The Malawi National Football Team Coach Kalisto Pasuwa could be a happy person after all the 25-players he called have reported for camp in Lilongwe.
The Flames started preparations on Monday for the African Nations Championship (Chan) second round qualifying match against South Africa at Bingu National Stadium this Saturday.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the development Tuesday.
“All the players are in camp. So far, no injuries. The mood is good in camp,” he said.
MpinganjiraPasuwa maintained a bulk of the squad that faced Comoros in the first leg such as Binwell Katinji, Maxwell Paipi, Wisdom Mpinganjira, Lloyd Aaron, George Chikooka, Alick Lungu and Gaddie Chirwa.
Notable new faces in the squad include Promise Kamwendo, Zeliati Nkhoma, Emmanuel Nyirenda, Blessings Singini, Charles Nkhoma and goalkeeper Lucky Tizola.
The return is scheduled for Loftus Stadium in Tswane on May 11.
Meanwhile, South Africa Coach Molefi Ntseki has named a 20-member squad for the clash against Malawi.
The squad comprises Betway Premiership stars such as Mamelodi Sundowns quartet of Malibongwe Zulu, Terence Mashego and Jody February and Neo Maema.
Yanga Madiba of Orlando Pirates, Tebogo Potsane and Samkelo Zwane (both Kaizer Chiefs) and Samukelo Xulu of SuperSport United are also in the squad.
But Polokwane duo of Ndamulelo Maphangule and Simon Ramabu have withdrawn from the squad for unknown reasons according to South African media.
South Africa-based Malawian journalist Benjamin Nyirenda said the Flames have a chance to progress to Chan finals.
“The biggest problem Malawi has in most cases is to feel inferior complex even before the game is played. If the players can approach the game with a positive mentality, they can beat them,” he said.
The Flames progressed to the second round after beating Comoros 4-0 on aggregate whereas South Africa defeated Egypt 4-2 on aggregate. The winner between Malawi and South Africa will qualify for Chan finals to be staged in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
