Africa-Press – Malawi. Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) has secured MK100 million from Sound Connect Fund (SCF) for data digitalization and management. COSOMA vice chairperson Ezaius Mkandawire told The Maravi Post that funds will be used for preservation of artistic work into digital, improving artists work downloads for loyalties generations.

Mkandawire was speaking during the cocktail dinner ahead of SCF long week capacity building slated for capital Lilongwe from September 26 to 2022. The training aims at empowering cultural and creative sectors in Southern Africa.

The training has attracted participants from Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, e-Swatini, Zambia and Malawi. “The funds has come at the right time when worldwide has graduated from analogue to digital which Malawi’s creative sector must embrace.

“The funds will used for preservation of data, access to data by general public. We want local artists must benefit from their work through downloads”, says Mkandawire.

SCF Monitoring evaluation officer, Pricilla Mwasinga said the training focuses on data management, heritage, diverse on creative industries. Mwasinga said the funds are open to individuals on creative sector linked to social media in Southern Africa

This is the second cohort of the capacity building on how creative artists are empowered coupled with funds. The three year project that was incepted in 2021 is funded by ACP-EU culture.
