Africa-Press – Malawi. A group of concerned citizens trading under the banner “Mbadwa Zokhudzidwa” says it will on Friday October 14,2022 hold demonstrations in Lilongwe against Paramount Holdings Limited and Ministry of Agriculture over alleged corruption related to a fertiliser supply contract.
In a statement dated October 7,2022 and addressed Lilongwe District Commissioner (DC), Maravi Post has in possession, the group alleges that the awarding of the contract in question did not follow procedures.
The statement reads in part “The group is calling the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate the Ministry of Agriculture for allowing Paramount Holdings Limited company to supply fertiliser to the Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi.”
But when contacted, the group’s leader Agape Khombe refused to share more details regarding the allegation saying they will make the information public on Tuesday October 11, 2022 based on evidence they have gathered.
While Lilongwe DC Lawford Palani confirmed of receiving the notification for the planned demonstrations. “We will hold a stakeholders meeting and guide them accordingly,” said Palani.
Currently, another grouping calling itself “Voice of the Voiceless” is warming up for demostrations slated for October 12,2022 aimed at telling President Lazarus Chakwera to fix the country’s ailing economy among other things.
