Africa-Press – Malawi. Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s team has signed Dutch striker Anne van Els on a four-month deal. Bullets Coach Maggie Chombo-Sadiki described van Els as a great player who will add depth to her squad.

“We are happy to welcome Anne to the Bullets family. She is an exciting signing and a worthy addition to our squad. Her arrival signifies the growth of women’s football in the country as she will bring a different dimension to our game. It’s pleasing to see how happy she is to join Bullets,’’ Chombo-Sadiki.

van Els has joined Bullets as a free agent and will be at The People’s Team until March next year. She said her ultimate goal is to contribute to Bullets’ success.

“Big Bullets is a big and special club to a lot of Malawians. This is not an ordinary club. I have been to the team’s matches at Kamuzu Stadium on two occasions and saw this for myself.

“I am therefore very excited and honoured to join this big club. I hope to contribute towards the success of its women’s team,” van Els said.

The 34-year-old started her football career at SV Venray’s first women’s team aged 15. She later moved to Door Vriendschap Verenigd Amsterdam where she won the championship in 2016.

van Els has been in Malawi for three months working at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre as paediatrician. Bullets will be hoping for more success with the new signing after winning the 2021 Fam Women’s Championship courtesy of a 3-1 win over DD Sunshine at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. The local champions are on top of the log table with 21 points from seven matches, three points above second-placed Ntopwa.
