In a bid to provide enhanced support to cooperative societies six grant schemes were launched today by the Minister of Industry, SME and Cooperatives, Mr Aadil Ameer Meea at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Cote D’Or Technopole, Réduit. Government will finance the grant schemes up to 80%.
Addressing the members of cooperative societies, Minister Ameer Meea recalled that several activities were held during 2025 to mark the International Cooperatives Year. They comprise fairs at Quatre Bornes, Port Louis and Trou D’Eau Douce as well as a workshop on the fight against money laundering to raise awareness among the cooperatives community.
The Minister also elaborated on the schemes that are being made available the cooperative community while highlighting that the allocations will be done in an equitable and fair manner.
The schemes are as follows:
The Energy Efficiency Scheme aims to support cooperatives in implementing the energy conservation measures, financing up to a maximum of Rs 100 000.
The Boost to Local Production Scheme will increase local production and contribute to food security for the purchase of agricultural equipment, financing up to a maximum of Rs 300 000.
The Livestock Farming Scheme will empower cooperative societies to boost local production of livestock through the purchase of micro-chipped goats, sheep, cows and pigs, financing up to a maximum of Rs 200 000.
The Seedlings Production Scheme will support cooperative societies to undertake seedlings production and ensure supply of seedlings, financing up to a maximum of Rs 250 000.
The Zero Budget Natural Farming Scheme will assist cooperatives to produce Jiwamrita which is an organic fertiliser, financing up to a maximum of Rs 200 000.
The Digitalisation Scheme will support cooperative societies to upgrade existing digital tools aligned with their activities to improve the efficiency and productivity of their operations, with financing up to a maximum of Rs 100 000.
The deadline for submission of application for beneficiaries from Mauritius and Rodrigues is 13 January 2026.
