Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mauritius marked the celebration of its first centenarian for the year 2026, Mrs Marie Irene Domah, who turned 100 years yesterday. The official ceremony was held at Domaine des Aubinaux, Curepipe, in the presence of her family members, relatives and well-wishers.

The Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity presented Mrs Domah with a bouquet, a centenarian medal, a certificate and a cheque of Rs 26,203 in her name. She also received a comforter, a Dorluxe pillow, a mattress protector and a ceramic steam iron.

In addition, Mauritius Telecom offered a Special Telephone Service. The Senior Citizens Council presented gifts comprising a shield, a bath towel, a hand towel and a birthday card, while the National Solidarity Fund handed over a cheque of Rs 10,000.

Mrs Marie Irene Domah was born on 6 January 1926 in Curepipe. Her father worked as a cook and her mother was a housemaker. She was one of five children, with two brothers and two sisters.

She lived in free union and gave birth to a daughter, who currently takes care of her. Mrs Domah also has one grandson.

The centenarian attributes her longevity to her faith in God, her daily prayers and her kind nature. Despite her advanced age, she has no major health issues; sees, hears and communicates well; and is able to move around with assistance.
