World Teachers’ Day: Workshop focuses on Leadership Paradigm in Teaching

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A half-day workshop on Leadership Paradigm in Teaching, was organised today, by the Special Education Needs Authority (SENA), in the context of World Teachers’ Day 2023, at the World Hindi Secretariat in Phoenix. World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on 05 October.

An award of certificates to SEN institutions having embarked onto the programme of the Mauritius Digital Promotion Agency (MDPA) as well as the launching of the Junior Achievement Mascareignes (JAM) Programme for SEN learners, were also held.

The Director of SENA, Mr Deewakarsingh Authelsingh, present on the occasion, congratulated the teachers present for helping learners with special education needs benefit from the education required so that they can feel equal to all.

The workshop, he indicated, forms part of the several initiatives taken to discuss the difficulties that SEN staff face and see how these can be remedied for the welfare of SEN students.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the efforts of the teachers and the daily challenges they face in the performance of their duties. “This is why we want to empower you by providing this workshop on Leadership Paradigm in Teaching, as this will help you in disseminating knowledge to our children,” Mr Authelsingh said.

Children Innovative Learning and Design Programme The MDPA has rolled out its first cohort of the Children Innovative Learning and Design (ChILD) Programme for pupils of Grades 4, 5 and 6 in various SEN schools.

It is in this context that a certificate of participation was awarded to 20 teachers and 361 pupils who have taken part in the two-day capacity-building ChILD Programme.

Presently, 12 SEN institutions are concerned and the MDPA is planning to roll out this programme in 20 additional SEN institutions where some 600 pupils will benefit from this course.

JAM Programme The JAM Programme is an initiative that equips students with the necessary skills to get and keep a job. The course is based on three pillars, namely: work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

This Programme has been launched today and will be taught in all SEN institutions so as to open the doors to a decent job for all SEN learners of the Republic of Mauritius.
