Africa-Press – Mozambique. European Council President António Costa emphasised on Tuesday the “strong partnership” between the EU and Mozambique, following a meeting with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to invest in regional stability and sustainable connectivity.
In a post on the social network X, António Costa said he received Daniel Chapo today for “a constructive meeting in Brussels”.
“We reaffirmed the strong partnership between the EU and Mozambique, and our commitment to invest in regional stability, sustainable connectivity and growth,” the post read.
The Mozambican President began a working visit to the EU on Saturday to strengthen and deepen cooperation relations, which included a meeting with the President of the European Council, António Costa.
In a statement, the Presidency of the Republic indicated that the visit of President Daniel Chapo to the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, aims to reinforce relations “in various areas of common interest” with this institution.
During the visit, which concludes on Wednesday, 18 March, meetings were scheduled between the Mozambican Head of State and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas; the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Javi López; the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Preparedness and Equality, Hadja Lahbib; and the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela.
On the sidelines of his visit to the European Union, President Chapo was also received by King Philippe of Belgium, in a meeting intended “to discuss matters of bilateral interest between Mozambique and the Kingdom of Belgium,” according to a statement from the Mozambican Presidency of the Republic.
