CC to announce judgement on Friday, looking for ‘dignified venue’

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Constitutional Council (CC) intends to make public its ruling on the October 11th municipal elections next Friday, November 24th, ‘Carta de Moçambique” has learned from a reputable source.

The CC completed its work in the context of electoral litigation on November 9th and is now immersed in the marathon of validating the electoral results announced by the National Elections Commission.

The announcement of the judgement on November 24th is dependent, however, on one more thing: the securing of a dignified venue [sala condigna] for the occasion. Such is now being sought, with a fine-toothed comb.

Meanwhile, the CC yesterday (16-11) gave the CNE an additional 72 hours to produce the electoral notices (editais), but demanded notices from 11 more districts. They are: Katembe, Kamabukwana and Nhaca in the city of Maputo, Namaacha (Maputo province), Chokwe (Gaza), Homoine (Inhambane), Morrumbala and Milange (Zambézia), Mandimba and Insaca (Niassa) and Moatize (Tete).

On Wednesday, the CC demanded individual notices and minutes from 10 municipalities and gave the National Electoral Commission (CNE) just 24 hours to deliver them. The president of the CNE, Bishop Carlos Matsinhe, asked yesterday for an extension of 48 hours.
