Africa-Press – Mozambique. Daniel Chapo will be confirmed as Frelimo president on February 14, at an extraordinary session of the Central Committee, says party spokesperson Ludmila Maguni. The party’s secretary-general and members of the Central Committee’s secretariat are also expected to be elected at the meeting.
In less than a month, Frelimo is expected to have a new president, in an election which will be one of the backdrops for the extraordinary session of the Central Committee, scheduled for February 14.
The party’s current secretary-general, Daniel Chapo, will take over as the party’s top leader, replacing Filipe Nyusi, who has been in that post since his election in September 2022. In other words, Nyusi will end his five-and-a-half-year term.
With Chapo’s rise to the leadership of Frelimo, the position of secretary-general is vacant, and this should be the other item on the agenda.
The third extraordinary session of the Frelimo Central Committee will take place at the party’s Central School in the city of Matola. This body is made up of 250 members and is the most important meeting of Frelimo after the party congress.
