Africa-Press – Mozambique. The 110 kV line from Casa Nova in the Chibabava district of Sofala will carry the electricity to the northern districts of Inhambane. The construction works for three substations and a 240 km long high voltage line should be completed by November of this year.
The project is divided into three phases, the first of which comprises the supply and installation of 240 km of 110 kV line from the Casa Nova substation in Chibabava, Sofala province) to the Temane substation in Inhassoro, Inhambane province.
This line is supported by 672 pylons, currently at 95% execution level. Construction of the connection towers one on the north and south banks of the Save River is entering it final phase.
Phase Two comprises the construction of three substations, one a 110/33kV, 16 MVA substation in Casa Nova, the second a 110/33 kV, 40 MVA one in Temane, and the last a 33/11kV, 2X10MVA example in Vilankulo. These are currently at an execution level of 92%, and in the final stage of equipment installation.
Phase Three comprises the construction of 174 km of 33kV network; the construction of 88 km of low voltage (0.4 kV) network; the installation of 76 33/0.4kV transformer stations; installation of 1,380 street lighting lamps and connection of 10,500 new consumers, whose physical completion stands at 30% of execution, respectively, but with all the necessary material already being in Vilankulo.
Three hundred and eighty-two medium voltage poles have already been installed – 19% of those programmed. Seven kilometres of medium voltage line has been launched, which is the equivalent to 4%, and 375 new consumers out of the 10,000 foreseen connected.
At this point in time, 670 of the 672 scheduled towers have been built, and 222 km of the planned 240 km line launched.
Construction is underway at the three substations, and assembly of electrical equipment at the Casa Nova and Temane substations has already been completed. All material is in the field, excluding relays currently under test.
With more energy on the way, the government of Vilankulo will see an end to the ordeal of electricity shortages in one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country. Many times, the local administrator narrates, tourist resorts have had to resort to generators to ensure electricity supply.
The inauguration of the line is expected to improve the quality of electricity supply for the population of Vilanculos, Inhassoro and Guvuro districts in Inhambane, and Machanga and Muxungue in Sofala.
