Africa-Press – Mozambique. The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, met on Sunday, 15 February, with his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi. The Mozambican President met Félix Tshisekedi within the framework of diplomatic and historical relations between Maputo and Kinshasa, reiterating that “Mozambique believes unequivocally that dialogue is the best solution for any dispute or conflict.”
“The main objective of the meeting with President Tshisekedi was to convey (… ) the position of the Government of Mozambique regarding (… ) not only the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but also in other countries across the continent, such as Sudan,” stated the Mozambican head of state.
Daniel Chapo emphasised that Mozambique’s diplomatic line “is always the one everyone knows,” based on the defence of dialogue. According to the President, the meeting also served to share Mozambique’s experience in internal consultation. “We took the opportunity to convey our experience of inclusive national dialogue,” adding that the ongoing process in the country “involves all social strata and all political parties.”
During the working visit to Ethiopia, between 12 and 15 February, Daniel Chapo held meetings of a political and economic nature. He shared Mozambique’s political, economic and social situation, with emphasis on the impact of recent climatic events – floods, urban flooding and Cyclone Gezani – receiving expressions of solidarity and commitments to support immediate mitigation and post-disaster recovery efforts.
The 39th African Union Heads of State and Government Summit took place over the weekend in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme “Water and Sanitation,” in a context marked by peace and security challenges, institutional crises in several member states, and renewed calls to strengthen African multilateralism.
