Africa-PressMozambique. The intersection between the Maputo Ring Maputo and the National Road Number Four (EN4) in Tchumene should soon be open to traffic, to the relief of the thousands of motorists and passengers enduring the precarious situation on these roads.

After being delayed by several stoppages over the past two years, the works are now in their concluding phase.

A source from the Mozambican Road Network REVIMO, concessionaire for the Maputo Ring Road and the Maputo-KaTembe bridge, said that, at the moment, only a few finishing touches remained to be done.

The Tchumene intersection, comprising a viaduct and entrance and exit ramps from one road to another, was part of the initial ‘Circular’ project, but ended up starting later than on other fronts because of differences in approach between the government and Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the EN4 concessionaire.

Even when disagreements between the National Roads Administration (ANE) and TRAC were resolved, work still only progressed at half speed because of a shortage of funds on the part of the Maputo Sul Development Company, the public entity that at the time owned the project.

The works gained greater visibility and speed with the emergence of REVIMO, which is the current manager of the highway and is currently also building a toll plaza in Tchumene.
