Africa-Press – Mozambique. National Highway Number One (N1) has been blocked since the early hours of this morning (Monday, 01-09) in Nhongonhane, Marracuene district, Maputo province, following clashes between the local population and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).

The incident was caused by the death of a child, who was hit by gunfire during a police chase.

According to information gathered by ‘Notícias Online’, the situation began during one of the regular early-morning police blockades, during which public transportation is prevented from circulating until a certain time.

Residents report that, on this occasion, police officers allowed some vehicles to pass while others were forced to stop, a situation that generated discontent among drivers and passengers.

In the confusion, a passenger vehicle from South Africa managed to pass through the blockade. The police initiated a pursuit and fired shots in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

One of the bullets ended up hitting a nearby child, killing him instantly.
