Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Russian government has offered to support Mozambique in the fields of aquaculture, sea fishing, marine industry, scientific research, combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, as well as in developing the capacities of both the public and private sectors.
The offer was conveyed by the head of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency, Ilya Shestakov, in a meeting with Mozambique’s Minister of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Augusta Maíta, who led the national delegation to the IV International Forum of the Fishing Industry in the Russian city of St Petersburg.
Ilya Shestakov also expressed Russia’s openness to helping national fish exports find a market in Russia. There were, he said, no restrictions on the export of fish to Russia, save for compliance with sanitary procedures, a subject which could be dealt with by technical teams concerned with animal health.
At the meeting, which was also attended by the Mozambican Ambassador to Russia, Mateus Katupha, Minister Augusta Maíta presented various areas of potential cooperation, specifically aquaculture, maritime fishing, naval industry and capacity development in both the public sector and in the private sector, highlighting that aquaculture could profitably be turned towards the commercial aspect.
Minister Maíta said the meeting was productive, and that she will follow up in order to ensure that the various initiatives, in areas that Russia has shown itself ready to support or cooperate with, do in fact materialize.
