Africa-Press – Mozambique. The 39 students who competed for scholarships for various courses at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia (Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira – UNILAB) remain in national territory, still sleeping in front of the facilities of the Instituto de Bolsas de Estudos de Moçambique (IBE) and without any arrangements for making the trip.
The students claim that the IBE has not provided any information, saying that employees enter and leave the institution without saying anything. However, on Tuesday afternoon (06-02), information circulated on social media stating that Emose would pay for the students’ plane tickets to Brazil in full, putting an end to the impasse that hovered over the trip.
The messages were shared by several figures, including some Mozambican journalists who, in turn, congratulated the Emose chairman. But when ‘Carta’ spoke to the students this Wednesday (07-02) to find out if they already had information about the Emose offer, they seemed surprised.
“We don’t have any information about our trip,” explained Leonel Jorge Mumuane, one of the group. “So far, no one from Emose has contacted us about this matter. We also follow the issue through social media. I think this information is not true or is something that still needs confirmation. We continue to sleep here in front of the IBE – there are 20 students sleeping here, especially those from the provinces. We continue to depend on people of good faith to feed us.”
Mumuane said that some of his colleagues had even sold their beds to obtain money to process certain documents, adding that he doesn’t know how they will manage if they have to return home.
“We only have two days left to get to Brazil and, if we are unable to travel by Sunday, we will all lose our scholarships,” he stressed.
‘Carta’ was unable to obtain any confirmation from Emose regarding the payment for plane tickets. None of the institution’s official web pages contain any information on the subject.
