Vitano Singano’S Party and Wife do not Confirm his Death

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The leader of the Democratic Revolution party has been missing for over two weeks. Reports are circulating on social media and in some media outlets that he was murdered after disappearing under strange circumstances.

Vitano Sigano’s wife and members of his party, the Democratic Revolution, have not confirmed the politician’s death.

This Wednesday, the politician’s wife appeared on STV and said the information[ on Singano’s death] was false.

“I don’t know why this information is circulating on social media. So far, we don’t know Vitano’s whereabouts, but we’re doing everything we can to gather clues. If it were true, my family would have had the information first-hand,” said Cidália Paulino, the politician’s wife.

In fact, according to his wife and his party, the Democratic Revolution, Singano was supposedly kidnapped by agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service.

He was last seen near the airport.

“The information we have indicates that he was kidnapped in the [Beira city] Shoprite area by individuals from SERNIC. During the abduction, he managed to throw one of his cell phones, and the taxi driver took it and other belongings to a store. The owner then called me and his wife to give the information,” explained party spokesperson Santismo Januário.

According to Januário, the alleged kidnapping has been reported to the police authorities and the Attorney General’s Office, which have so far provided no clues as to his whereabouts.

“We are waiting for the justice institutions to make a statement, as they did last time, when, even without an arrest warrant, he was taken to the Janet market area and then to the eighth police station, where his detention was legalized. Since the same modus operandi was followed, we hope he is in police custody,” Januário said.

Speaking off the record, SERNIC in Maputo City said it was unaware of the information regarding Vitano Singano’s disappearance or his kidnapping by alleged agents of the institution.
