Africa-Press – Namibia. The Katima Alliance Development Association (Kada) has encouraged residents of Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region to vote with purpose during the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.
Addressing a media conference on Saturday, KADA chairperson Benson Kaapala said the removal of councillors from Katima Mulilo Town Council by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has restored public trust. He urged residents to make informed decisions based on a candidate’s commitment to good governance rather than party affiliations.
“The action taken by Sankwasa was a good step and has restored the trust of the people of Katima Mulilo and the whole country. The action has come at the right time and will spark a revolution of change in the youth, as they will confidently vote for change and the KADA association candidates into power,” he said.
Kaapala noted that political parties had failed to take the necessary steps to resolve the issues that arose from the dismissal of the councillors.
He stressed that political parties will not address the matter now, as the majority of the nation is closely monitoring developments.
Any attempt to challenge the minister’s actions at this stage, he said, could trigger a vote of no confidence in those parties and their dealings.
“This will further confirm the people’s sentiments that the other parties are only there to collect votes and do not care for the masses, further painting their respective parties as corrupt,” he noted.
Additionally, Kaapala applauded Sankwasa for acting within his powers and mandate as provided by law.
He further said that KADA will, in the coming weeks, present candidates for Katima Mulilo Local Authority as well as the Bukalo Village Council, depending on the electoral body’s response to its request to extend boundaries.
Katima Mulilo Town Council is currently headed by administrator Marina Kandumbu, who was appointed to manage the council’s affairs pending the outcome of the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections on 26 November.
KADA has indicated that it will contest seats at both the KMTC and Bukalo Village Council.
